My Biography-Part Five- in India!
I returned to Srilanka in year 1987 and my father told me that he finalized my marriage for a dowry of Rs 400,000 cash and an ancestral property. he said that he needed Rs 200,00 to dispose my elder sister! I did not want to give consent for that marriage because I had not even seen the girl! My father said if I did not marry that particular girl he would hang himself -up! He threatened me and asked my consent under duress. I had no other option but to agree to his suggestion. I thought that I should not have returned home. One day our family went to see the bride.
She brought tea to my parents, me, and my sisters.
I saw her !! I realized that my father wanted to destroy my future for the sake of money.I objected to this proposal but my father insisted that I marry her. I had no other option but to agree to this sell-off by keeping my pain inside! I was very broken!
I still do not have answers, why the Asians destroy their children's future by proposing marriage for money? I could not understand why most of the Asians give priority for dowry, status and property gains in marriage instead of getting mutual consent from the bride or from the bridegroom! At the end of the day it was they who were going to live amicably until they die!! i never consented to this marriage and my family circumstances made me to arrive at a decision to marry that girl whom I did not like! My life turned upside down due to this foolish act of my parents!
As the parents wished, my marriage registration was over and my parents got the dowry as expected! They later found a bridegroom for my elder sister! After the formal registration, I went to the bridge's house because the social custom demands that sort of visits after registration!
Later the religious ceremonies were held and I got married. I wished to concentrate on my studies! I left her in the village and went to the city of Colombo in search of a job.
I got one temporary job as an architect with the monthly payment of mere thousand rupees. I had to spent Rs300 for room rent and the rest for my meals and other sundry expenses!
In 1996 I went to Chennai, South-India and stayed there for a month. I visited the famous Annamalai University, M.G.R. Samathi,ANNA memorial hall GANDHI museum, MERINA beach and several Hindu temples such as TIRUPATHI,THIRUTHTHANI,VADA-PALANI ,MAMALLAPURAM ROCK & CAVE TEMPLES,RAJAJI memorial hall etc etc!
I did not send a cent to my wife during that time! After two years of our marriage she was pregnant for the first time and got a baby boy. She was very happy and I was very sad since I did not have a proper income to lead the life. I wanted to go back to Europe. This time to the United Kingdom! I somehow managed to enter the United kingdom in year 2000!
