The Difference between Hinduism & Buddhism
The main religions in the South and South-East Asian regions are Buddhism and Hinduism.Lord Buddha who invented Buddhist philosophy partly recognizes the gods and goddesses of the Hindu Pantheon.Buddha believes "Hell theory" as like Hindus where the condemned souls are tortured and incarcerated by the attendants of YAMA the "King of the nether world".At the same time Buddha does not believe in individual "Atman" or a "Soul" in living creatures. Buddha says that there is no "Soul' in human-beings or other living creatures but point-out that there is only a "living force"(Consciousness). This living force determines the living-path of an individual and is guided by the "Karma" or the past deeds of a living creature in this or previous carnations! For instance if you had a good "Karma" in the past, you will be born in a wealthy family and enjoy all things in life.
The living force is impermanent according to Lord Buddha. When the body cease to operate or die the consciousness will also pass-away,but the past deeds of yours' will move from this world and take a new form of life in this world or any other worlds.
The Hindu belief on the other hand stresses on an individual "Atman" in living creatures and the past or present "Karma" is responsible to carve-out the conditions for the next birth. The Hindu theory says that after death the Soul or "Atman" travels to another realm and there the YAMA,the God of Death, decide the fate of the Atman. The Hindu mythology interprets that the attendants of YAMA will come to take your life when you die and this death is caused by the permanent migration of the soul from the body! The clerk of Lord YAMA, "Sithragupta" will read-out the wrong doings of the dead person and will sent him to nether world!
The "YAMA KINKIRAS" will be responsible for the torture and incarceration of the souls either in as an individual or as a group. There are various types of punishments given to souls such as frying in oily pan, plucking the hand nails, bitten by the worms, torched by fire etc.By these acts the Soul is cleaned and is made ready for the next birth.
The Buddhists and Hindus go hand in hand with the specific details of torture in the nether world.
Only thing is Buddha did not believe in Soul, where as the Hindus believed the same!
The Buddhist philosophy says that the world is full of "Dukka"(Filled with sadness) whereas the Hindus, even though they believe the world is full of "Dukka", and yearn for a celestial bliss with the God almighty! It may be Lord Krishna,Lord Siva or any other prescribed Gods in Hindu pantheon.
The Buddhist theory is describes the methods to alleviate the sufferings and find -out the reason for such sufferings by introducing an eight fold path in Buddhism. The Hindu theory while maintaining that world is full of suffering, tells the followers to attain a permanent self- bliss where happiness and sufferings are taken alike. There are different types of bliss in Hinduism. You may be a saint or you may attain liberation(Moksa) while you continue in your life.Noone need to go to a jungle or a forest to attain liberation. It is attained within yourself!
"Moksa" in Hinduism or "Nirvana" in Buddhism are different paths to achieve the liberation of the Soul from sufferings. Buddha disintegrates the living body into various organs and limps and says that those are perishable therefore none should think them as permanent and should see them as the causes of Dukka! Buddhists engage in meditation and the control of five senses which are the root cause for evolving Good or Bad "Karma"
The Hindus even though they know that the body is impermanent and perishable would like to lead the day to day life by surrendering themselves to the Almighty God,Lord Siva Or Lord Krishna.Their theory is happiness and cleansing the soul by performing good deeds! They engage in Nama Sangeerthanam" or chanting holy prayers as a group. This is very effective and productive in todays' fasting running world! They do Meditation & Yoga as well to purify the mind and the body.
Truly speaking the theories of Hinduism and Buddhism are fundamental the same, but differs in the case of individual soul and the path to achieve liberation!
