Working in London!

Working for Indian house-owners in North-West and Central London as an architect is not an easy task! We had to perform our functions as surveyors than as architects! Since we were from the Asian origin ,the London-based Indian businessmen and their wives always sought the help of local men like us for their house repair and re-design!Besides,engaging us for their house- design was cheaper to them than to employ an English architect. I was living in Perivale with a friend of mine for a short period of time and during which I went to several Indian house-holds to measure their houses and to prepare measured drawings.Survival in London is very very difficult for foreigners like us.You would have to undertake any type of job for your survival. In some instances you will be less-paid than the accepted 4pounds per hour!Even to sell green-leaves along the pavement you need a work-permit from the Home Officeand you would be taxed for the selling! That is how the tax system works in UK. So my job was to carry a tape and measure the drains, manholes etc in North-West London for the sake of my survival. It was not a rosy picture as we foreigners expected!

Some of my peers found jobs in Beer Companies,Photo -Studios,Hospitals etc! You know the worth of the money in Western Countries.
